The Wonders of Modern Communication

Hi everyone! Thanks to my awesome older sister, I am going to try this blog thing to keep everyone updated on my life in Peru. I still haven't q
uite figured everything out like how to put pictures and all up yet, but it will come. If you really want to get in touch with me I have a skype account that you can call me on. The phone number is (703) 879-8543. So far I have only been in Peru for three full days, but they have been pretty sweet. It's Holy Week, and Peru being a traditionally Catholic country has all sorts of stuff going on. Ursula and Ruben didn't have to work Thursday or Friday which was awesome and I spent a lot of time with them. Thursday night I participated in an interesting tradition where we had to visit 7 churches. In central Lima there are 11 churches with in 1 sq. kilometer so we knocked it out in an hour and a half, but in typical peruvian commercialism fashion, there were tons of people outside all the churches selling everything from prayer cards to cell phones and cotton candy (and the dreaded balloons.)There were so many people (see video below) it was ridiculous. I haven't had to use any Pepto yet, but Ruben has given me a list of foods that he loves that I should try that you can't find in the US so we will see how those work out. My volunteer work is slowly starting to take shape. I have several options but the coolest sounds like helping kids with disabilities learn to play music (and no, I don't have to know how to play an instrument to help out.)I have had a lot of fun playing with Jose Miguel and he calls me something like Keen (Quinn is way over his head.)I think he is finally starting to warm up to me because I always play with him when the padres are too busy. So thats all for now. More soon!

YESSSSSSSS! I love love love this! Thank you so much for doing it, I am going to check it every day in a strict competition to post more comments than mom (it will be tough, I know, but I think I can win!). The video puts a huge grin on my face because at the end you can hear Rubén say "porque te ries?" to you -- which is something he used to say to me alot as well. Gringa, you rocka. Keep us posted. OH, and send the web address out to all your friends, it is excellent.

I love this blog thingy, even though I don't know if this site is going to allow me to post this without an account. So I'm not going to type any more until I find out if it will go. I"ll write again soon after this trial run.

Call us tomorrow. Su Madre Gorda.... my vocabulary is very limited or I would have chosed something more exciting.

Hola mi prima! (Aunt Martha wants me to write this to you in spanish.. so i'll do my best)

yo espero que ud. estas divertiendose en peru.

ahora yo estoy en Hawaii con sus padres y mi familia. Hoy nosotros llegamos desde Kaua'i. Cuando visitamos una cascada (i think that means waterfall) alli yo vi un carro que perdia una ventana y tambien habia cristal en el suelo. Por eso, mi padre se quedo con el carro.
